CrossFit is an intense exercise program featuring dynamic exercises like plyometric jumps, and Olympic lifts while using non-traditional weightlifting equipment such as kettlbells, sand-bags, suspension systems and bumper plates.

The many benefits of CrossFit training are due to the intensity of the exercises. High intensity, power-based exercises are effective for burning a high number of calories in a short period of time while simultaneously improving aerobic fitness and promoting the anabolic hormones such as testosterone, HGH and IGF-1 which are responsible for muscular growth and can actually have an anti-aging effect. CrossFit is an excellent workout program and is a great way for the experienced exercise enthusiast to add much-needed intensity and diversity to his or her program; however, it is not a recommended program for people just starting to exercise or returning after a long hiatus.

Workout Space of the Week

Along with this e-mail are some photos of my workout room. I've worked out since being a teenager having used bedrooms, basement , garage and a utility room. Now having a dedicated workout room is great. I have a Body Solid bench, Gold Gym cage and 1,000 lbs. of olympic and standard weights. Health & Fitness Tip: Vitamin D Deficiency

When bones are lacking vitamin D they fail to calcify normally and may grow so weak that they become bent when they have to support the body’s weight. Rickets is a vitamin D deficiency disease in children and rickets in adults also called osteomalacia where the bones of the legs may soften to become bent and bowlegged. Inadequate vitamin D is a risk factor in osteoporosis (reduced bone density). The symptoms of vitamin D deficiency are abnormal growth, misshapen bones (bowing of legs), soft bones, joint pain, malformed teeth and muscle spasms.
